There are different types of appointment letters
that social security disability claimants may receive while
their claims are being evaluated.
One common appointment letter is the notice regarding a
medical examination that has been scheduled by Disability
Determination Services. DDS, of course, is the state agency
that evaluates all disability claims for the social security
administration.
The second commonly received appointment letter is the
notice sent by the Office of Hearings and Appeals, indicating
that a hearing date has been set.
In all cases, it is important for social security disability
and ssi claimants to acknowledge their receipt of appointment
letters, as well as attend the appointments to which they
refer. Failure to do either can very easily have negative
consequences for a claimant's disability case.
