The question of a disability
claim's status should never be answered with
a question mark in a claimant's mind. In other words, if
a claimant is unsure about their case, they should make
the appropriate calls needed to remove this uncertainty.
In situations where claims have been pending for an unusually
long period of time, claimants can call their
local social security office to speak to a claims
representative. Claims Reps can provide general
updates on disability cases.
However, for cases pending at the Initial
and Reconsideration
levels, it is often more productive for a claimant to speak
directly with the disability examiner who is evaluating
their claim.
DDS Disability Examiners are typically easy to reach by
phone, and the telephone number for DDS can be quickly obtained
from the local social security office.
Claimant's who have submitted a Request
for Hearing before an Administrative Law Judge
may contact the Office of
Hearings and Appeals to inquire into the status
of their hearing request.
Disability claimants who have representation, of course,
should allow their representatives to make these calls on
their behalf.
